When is The Witcher season 2 premiere date?
The good news is that we now know the premiere date for The Witcher season 2. The bad news is that it won’t be here for a while. The eight-episode follow-up season to Netflix’s The Witcher will drop on December 17, 2021, which is still a couple of months away. However, when you consider that production continued well into April 2021, it’s much sooner than the early 2022 premiere date that many people feared.

Netflix has done a great job teasing season 2 of The Witcher over the past couple of months. The biggest teaser just dropped at WitcherCon, and is a full two-minute trailer that offers an extensive look at what fans should expect from The Witcher once season 2 arrives in December 2021.

Which characters and actors are returning for The Witcher season 2?
Obviously, Henry Cavill will return as the series’ protagonist, Geralt. Also returning is Freya Allan as Ciri, who Geralt is escorting to his alma mater of sorts, Kaer Morhen. Another returning character is Anya Chalotra as Yennefer, who will have to live with a huge bounty on her head following what happened at Sodden Hill. Fan-favorite Joey Batey is confirmed to be returning in season 2 of The Witcher as Jaskier. Don’t expect him to have an encore performance for his now-iconic song, Toss a Coin to Your Witcher. MyAnna Buring (Tissaia), Anna Shafer (Triss Merigold), Therica Wilson Read (Sabrina), and Mahesh Jadu (Vilgefortz) will also return in season 2 of The Witcher 2 as well. However, it is not yet known if they all survived following the events of the end of season 1 or if they’ll all be living on in the memories of Yennefer. The Brotherhood will also be returning in season 2 of The Witcher. This includes Terence Maynard (Artorious Vigo), Lars Mikkelson (Stregobor), Mimi Ndiwni (Fringilla Vigo), Royce Pierreson (Istredd), and Lilly Cooper (Murta). Lastly, Tom Canton (Filavandrel), Eamon Farren (Cahir), and Jeremy Crawford (Yarpin Zigrin), as well as Wilson Radjou-Pujalte (Dara) will all return.

While season 2 of The Witcher will have its fair share of familiar faces, some new ones will be arriving as well. Will The Witcher season 2 follow the plot of Blood of Elves?
The synopsis for season 2 of Netflix’s The Witcher reads as follows: Just in case you didn’t know, Netflix’s The Witcher isn’t based on CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher series of video games. Both are based on the same source material, which is the Polish series of novels, Witcher. But, where the games tend to take some liberties with the source material, the show adheres a bit more to the books, albeit with minor alterations. Having said that, most speculations point to season 2 of The Witcher following the events of the first long-form Witcher novel, Blood of Elves. For those who haven’t read the novel yet, Blood of Elves starts with Ciri already training at Kae Morhen. Much of the opening pages see Ciri recalling the events that were shown during the first season of Netflix’s The Witcher. If season 2 uses a similar format, we can expect Ciri’s training to make up most of the flashbacks while the present-day story follows Geralt and Ciri leaving Kaer Morhen to go to Ellander’s Temple School. Of course, with Jaskier in tow, we might end up seeing a trio instead of a duo as they face off against all sorts of troublesome monstrosities along the way. With Kristofer Hivju joining The Witcher as Nivellen for season 2, we can assume that Geralt will spend two episodes, at most, showing Ciri the ropes in person as he does some witching. On the grander scale of things, the novels show a second war between the Northern Kings and Nilfgaard taking place. Since that may be a bit too costly, the show might take both wars and turn it into a single big one so that it doesn’t take up too much away from Ciri’s training. Of course, there are other plot points that season 2 of Netflix’s The Witcher can explore such as the disappearance of Yennefer and The Brotherhood. With the new additions to the cast members of season 2 of The Witcher all but guaranteeing that the plot will follow the events of Blood of Elves, the only question now is just how much the TV show will choose to deviate from its source material.
